Transition to School Program: Confident and Ready for Primary School
Building school readiness skills
The Transition to School Program at Early Learners Hub has been thoughtfully designed in collaboration with Early Childhood Teachers and local Primary School educators to ensure every child is well-prepared for the exciting step into formal schooling.
Throughout the year, our program focuses on key skills that children need for a successful transition to school. These include:
Name identification and early writing skills
Fine motor development including correct pencil grip
Letter recognition, phonics, and early literacy
Counting, number recognition, and simple numeracy concepts
Cutting, gluing, and using classroom materials independently
Self-help skills such as managing school bags, lunchboxes, and belongings
Social skills like turn-taking, cooperation, and problem-solving
What our Preschool Families Are Saying.
“From the very first phone call, I felt the staff were friendly and open. The children at the Centre appeared to be happy and content and the Centre was clean and inviting”.
— Barbara, Early Learners Hub Family
“Really enjoyed the orientation, felt like everything was explained well and easy to understand. With the information provided we are feeling comfortable with leaving our son in your care”.
— Nicole, Early Learners Hub Family
“All the staff were friendly, we were shown what takes place for the day and what the children learn, eat, play and interact together. Very impressed with the interaction with my son”.
— Roxanne, Early Learners Hub Family
Our Transition to School Program runs as part of the daily curriculum in small, supportive group settings led by each child’s key educator. This allows children to revisit and consolidate these important skills regularly throughout the year, building confidence and mastery.
Embedded into our daily preschool routine
Starting school can feel overwhelming, which is why our program also places strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing. We work with each child to build resilience, develop friendships, and foster a love for learning that will carry into their school years.
Supporting confidence and independence
We understand the expectations of local Primary Schools and tailor our Transition to School Program to align with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), ensuring continuity and consistency as children move into Kindergarten.
Developed with educators and schools
Our Transition to School Program is supported through the NSW Government Start Strong Program, ensuring eligible children can benefit from government-funded preschool hours while developing the skills and confidence they need for a smooth start to school.
